Trust Catch Series –
This helps to develop the
elements of trust in a relationship and how they apply to teams
as well as individuals. This activity engages the participants
in three different trust falls. The first involves one catcher
and one faller. The second has both participants falling
backward towards each other, thus acting as the catcher and the
faller at the same time. The third involves one person falling
with the whole group catching and supporting. A discussion
follows the activities of how they demonstrated the needs of
trusting relationships, along with the different orientations
people may have with trust, and how trust can affect work or
personal relationships. Each member of the group may then choose
to participate in a fourth activity where they fall backwards,
off a platform towards their group.
Bridging the Gap – Ground Initiative -
A group is placed on a platform
and is instructed to travel to the end of the course without
touching the ground. The group would be handed boards of varying
lengths, sometimes not long enough to bridge the entire gap
alone, and instructed to devise a way to get all team members to
the end. This element requires patience, planning, and
cooperation to complete.
Spider’s Web – Low Ropes Activity -
A group is instructed to pass through a human sized spider web
without touching any of the web strands. Once a participant uses
an opening to get to the other side it is closed to the rest of
the group. This activity requires a lot of trust, cooperation,
and “start to finish” planning in order for the group to
successfully make it to the other side.
Leap of Faith – High Ropes Activity-
A participant will climb a
telephone pole to a small platform on top in order to leap off
and grab a trapeze that is suspended about six feet in front of
them. The participant will have many doubts and fears about
their personal capabilities, yet once the trapeze is felt all of
these will be erased and replaced with a feeling of achievement
and self-belief. This is truly a feeling that will not be
forgotten.
Jacob’s Ladder - High Ropes Activity –
One of the highest ropes
initiatives, requires two teammates to attempt to climb to the
top of the giant ladder obstacle. As the climbers get higher the
spaces between the logs increase, thus causing the members to
really rely on each other in order to get to the top. The logs
tend to sway with the climbers progress and they are not allowed
to touch or use the side cables. This promotes teamwork and
trust as confidence and the will to succeed help teams
accomplish a goal they may fear.
